Place

Casual Duty Manager
Assembly Rooms & Church Hill Theatre, Edinburgh

Salary: £26,788 - £30,751 (pro-rata for part time)
Hours: Casual hours

Do you have a passion for both theatre and events? Love the idea of working in two of Edinburgh’s most iconic venues, supporting live performances, events, and front-of-house operations? This is your chance to make a difference behind the scenes!

Join our talented in-house Duty Management team, supporting both the historic Assembly Rooms—a renowned events and performance venue—and the charming Church Hill Theatre, one of Edinburgh’s beloved small theatres. You’ll be a key part of making each event, from large-scale galas to intimate theatrical performances, a seamless and memorable experience for all.

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee front-of-house operations for a wide range of events and performances, from corporate events and performances at the Assembly Rooms to community theatre productions at Church Hill Theatre.

  • Ensure smooth operations by managing casual staff, preparing rotas, and delivering exceptional customer service.

  • Work with event organisers, sponsors, and performers to ensure every event runs flawlessly.

  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and legal compliance in both venues, including bar and catering services.

  • Liaise with external contractors and manage venue facilities, ensuring the venues are secure and well-maintained.

  • Act as a keyholder for both venues, managing opening and closing procedures.

What We're Looking For:

  • Passion for both events and theatre! You thrive in a dynamic environment and enjoy being part of both large and small events.

  • Experience in public event management, with expertise in front-of-house operations for busy venues.

  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to motivate and lead large teams while providing excellent customer service.

  • A solid understanding of customer care and the ability to adapt service to suit different audience types.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.

  • A first aid certificate or willingness to obtain one is desirable.

  • A Personal Licence Holder (Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005) is a plus.

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to be part of Edinburgh’s cultural and events landscape, working in two distinctive venues. Whether it's managing a prestigious event at the Assembly Rooms or a local theatre production at Church Hill Theatre, you’ll play a key role in shaping unforgettable experiences.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
