IT Demand and Capacity Manager

Salary: Circa £60,000

Location: Swindon


We are looking for Demand & Capacity Manager, based in Swindon, to work in our established Demand & Capacity Management team, within IT Support.


The roles primary aim is to ensure that the Society does not experience capacity-related unplanned IT service outages, by ensuring that the business demand for IT services is understood; the resulting capacity requirements to support this demand is identified, and operational capacity utilisation requirements are monitored. In addition, the function will need to ensure that the business demand for IT services is well understood so that we consume the necessary resources to service this demand.

What you’ll be doing


As a Demand & Capacity Manager, you’ll create strategic Capacity Plans for Nationwide’s critical IT services, ensuring any risks and constraints are understood. You’ll both produce and review technical metrics and support the creation of capacity models to ensure that Nationwide’s key services are capable of meeting business requirements in the short, medium and long term.

To do this, you’ll need to ensure that data consumed and created by the Demand & Capacity processes is both accurate and relevant.


You’ll provide governance and quality assurance to the outputs and effectiveness of the Demand & Capacity function across all areas of IT to ensure consistency.


You’ll be expected to provide visibility of, and present on the effectiveness of the function to senior stakeholders, highlighting any risks to IT provided services. You will be required to host Demand & Capacity forums attended by senior and critical stakeholders.


You’ll also provide subject matter expertise advice, guidance and education on best practice to users and stakeholders of the process, such as teams delivering changes into the production environment.



About you


As a minimum requirement you’ll have:

  • A broad business and technology background, gained from significant experience in a corporate environment
  • Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities
  • Strong understanding of IT risk management
  • The ability to liaise with senior level stakeholders effectively to communicate issues, risks and opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels, including senior-level report writing
  • Good influencing and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to prioritise demanding workloads and remain calm and objective under pressure
  • The ability to pay attention to detail, as well as a big picture view
  • Awareness and understanding of ITIL
  • Awareness and understanding of the COBIT framework
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills
