£45,000-£47,000 + benefits.

As Data Protection Manager, you will work closely with the Company Secretary, Corporate Services, who acts as our Data Protection Officer in leading the Charity’s operational Data Protection and Compliance Programme and Privacy Management Framework.



Maintaining a pragmatic and commercially minded attitude and approach to privacy management, the Data Protection Manager will put the individual first, working to the principles of choice, control, and transparency.



Championing the highest data protection standards and drive forward compliance. You will collaborate with colleagues across the Charity assessing and advising on the processing and use of Personal Data and ensuring the Charity’s activities are aligned with privacy legislation, regulation, and best practice, including the Data Protection Act 2018 (incorporating the UK General Data Protection Regulations); the Privacy and Electronic Communication Regulations (PECR); and requirements set by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).



The ideal candidate for this role is a highly skilled and experienced data protection professional who is genuinely passionate about data protection, privacy principles, and the charity sector.



Data Protection Responsibilities



To provide specialist advice and recommendations across a range of data protection topics, including but not limited to, data rights requests, data processing activities, data breach management and data sharing.



To create and maintain documentation that provides evidence of legal and regulatory compliance, maintaining the Charity’s registrations with the Information Commissioners Office.



To identify and address areas where the organisation needs to review strategy, policy, or procedure, leading on the development and delivery of colleague awareness and training.



Lead on the data privacy aspects of improvement initiatives and developments across the Charity, collaborating with peers and colleagues undertaking Data Protection Impact Assessments, Legitimate Interest Balance Tests, and associated risk assessments, as necessary.



To lead on data breach and information incident management response handling and reporting.



To support on the development and lead implementation of relevant data privacy and compliance policies, processes, and procedures, maintain an appropriate review cycle and ensure joined up working is taking place across teams in order to support and achieve organisational strategic aims.



To process and respond to requests from individuals exercising their rights under data protection legislation, including but not limited to requests for access to personal information; requests objecting to direct marketing; erasure requests; and requests received through the Fundraising Preference Service.



To produce compliance reports on data privacy and governance and compliance matters for the Charity Board and Governance, Reputation and Risk Committee, working with the Company Secretary, Corporate Services to ensure Trustees and Senior Executives are updated on progress against performance measures and updates on legislation and best practice.
