Job Description

Taylor Root is working with a UK headquartered, PE backed logistics and real estate business. They’re looking to hire a Senior Corporate/Commercial Counsel for a 12-month Fixed Term Contract to provide parental leave cover. The role will start at the beginning of December.


Reporting directly into the General Counsel, this is a role that involves working closely with the UK and European management and business teams providing advice across all jurisdictions in which the business operates. The role will inherit supervision of 3 lawyers in the UK and a legal operations manager. The role would suit someone who has a generalist corporate and commercial skillset.


Key duties and responsibilities:

  • With the support of the General Counsel, leading on a wide range of legal, risk, insurance, and corporate governance matters across jurisdictions in Europe.
  • Overseeing and advising the business on their internal approvals process.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex contracts.
  • Managing and overseeing litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution as necessary.
  • Overseeing the renewal of property and corporate insurance programmes. Assisting the business with the handling of material claims.
  • Putting in place strong corporate governance practices and procedures.
  • Drafting policies and procedures for a range of business areas.
  • Implementing training across the business.
  • Advising on applicable UK laws and regulations. Ensuring compliance and keeping up to date with EU and UK laws/regulations and their application to the business.
  • Liaising with key shareholders, investors, business partners, and external counsel.


Experience required:

  • Ideally, 10+ years’ post qualification legal experience.
  • Ideally, someone who’s had a mixture of both private practice and in-house experience.
  • Corporate and commercial legal background, with an ability to turn hand to a variety of areas.
  • Real estate legal experience is not required, but helpful.
  • Experience negotiating high-value, complex contracts and agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage junior staff, manage external counsel, and work collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and being able to articulate advice to the business.
