Fluor and Energy Materials, an Orbia business, is looking for a UK Operations Director to be predominately based at our Rocksavage site, Runcorn.


Some travel expected within/outside the UK to customers, service providers, regulators and other global offices.


Main Purpose

Part of the UK Leadership team, having overall accountability for UK manufacturing operations and leadership of all SHEQ&S and engineering aspects for Fluor and Energy Materials UK locations. Lead, direct and support the senior management teams within operational areas to deliver business objectives across cGMP pharma and COMAH operating assets. Accountability covers the full spectrum of operational responsibilities including but not limited to SHEQ&S, production, engineering, maintenance, quality, logistics, projects and continuous improvement. Senior leader who consistently demonstrates the right values, commitment and enthusiasm to manage and grow critical operating areas and promotes excellent rapport with internal and external stakeholders.


Main Responsibilities

  • As the most senior operational leader in the UK, demonstrate full commitment to and promote the company’s vision and values through personal efforts and example. Comply fully with the company’s code of ethics and lead by example on work ethic, values and behaviours.
  • Effective and demonstrable leadership of and commitment to safety, health, environment, quality, sustainability and security (SHEQ&SS). Maintain and improve required systems and processes in these areas to deliver the company’s objectives regarding personal and process safety, medical and industrial quality and other SHEQ&S dimensions across all operational and office locations in the UK. Actively support, promote & deliver a pan-UK approach to SHEQ&S and engineering standards.
  • Set, seek approval for, monitor and control fixed, variable and capital budgets for Runcorn operations and for SHEQ&S and engineering aspects of other F&EM UK locations. Maintain effective liaison value creation and value preservation as a senior leader.
  • Set and deliver the site’s operating and production plans to meet customer demand and meet agreed targets regarding volumes, quality, cost and timeliness. Maintain excellent communication with key external and internal customers.
  • Be an approachable leader for people at all levels of the organisation. Invest time and effort in developing people and robustly implementing the company’s people, industrial relations and organisational development processes to ensure a competent, resilient and future-fit organisation for areas of responsibility.
  • Work effectively, proactively and collaboratively with other functions and teams within the business. Keep a close eye on the needs of internal and external customers and stakeholders and provide the required solutions and services by appropriate resourcing, prioritising and ultimately getting things done in the right way. Support own teams by requesting/leveraging support from other functions as and when required.
  • Maintain effective networks and rapport with external interested parties such as the landlords, regulators, customers, suppliers, industry bodies, community, etc. – provide required insights to the business leadership and promote the company’s interests.


Qualifications

  • Minimum: Degree in engineering or a scientific discipline or demonstrable, relevant experience.
  • Desirable: MBA/formal qualifications in Leadership or Management or demonstrable, relevant experience at a senior level.


Knowledge/ Experience Required

  • Extensive experience working in the chemical/petrochemical/pharmaceutical industry at a senior level.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior management role, managing multi-discipline teams with full responsibility for SHEQ&S, people, production and budgets.
  • Demonstrable track record of progressive increase in responsibility and span of control and the ability to handle and implement change.
  • Track record of successful interaction with regulators, customers and suppliers.
  • High hazard chemical operations (upper tier COMAH).
  • cGMP Pharma environment for excipient manufacture.
  • Management of change (technical, organisational and cultural).
  • Experience of managing multiple locations would be advantageous.
  • Budgets and financial management.
  • Engineering and maintenance management.
