Description

Maintenance and repair of Vincennes University electrical systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance and repair operations as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Installs and repairs Electrical, HVAC, Telephone, Security Equipment, and other educational equipment as assigned.

  • Installation of 3-phase service including new and existing construction.

  • Repair fan units, motors, pumps, valves, dampers, condensers, compressors and HVAC controls.

  • Inspects, repairs, and responds to calls on weekends and after hours.

  • Works independently and with all Physical Plant personnel installing and maintaining equipment.

  • Maintains and repairs Fire Alarm, Control, Security, Electrical, and HVAC systems.

  • Maintains and operates Hi-Voltage Substation and Transformers.

  • Helps with all University Events.

  • Repairs and installs Food Service equipment.

  • Computer Skills - ability to maintain and operate IPad and similar technology a plus

  • Communications - Must have excellent verbal communication skills and be able to lead

Required and Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, Valid Driver's License, Clean driving record, Possession of Electrical License a plus.

  • Three years documented experience as an Electrician in the institutional or commercial environment. Related skills in a combination of the following areas: mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, building trades, etc.

  • Acquire within a specific time frame an Electrician License, City of Vincennes.

  • Interprets and works from rough sketches, drawings, and blueprints, and follows both verbal and written instructions.

  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and use of safety equipment.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, faculty, and staff, students and the general public; will be required to work as a member of an assigned crew on large projects

  • Experienced and comfortable working in heights on scaffolding, ladders, and lifts.

  • Able to respond to emergency situations and will be required to perform building checks during weekends/holidays on a rotation basis and carrying/responding to cell phone calls.

  • Skilled in the safe operation and use of tools, materials, and equipment.

  • Experience with heating, ventilating, and boiler equipment and operations desirable.

  • Working knowledge of operation of boilers, pumps, air compressors, water heaters and refrigeration equipment.

  • Willingness to learn and work in other trade skills in order to complete maintenance duties efficiently and effectively. (Including Carpentry, Plumbing and HVAC)
