This is a key role for someone who is an experienced Design Lead or Engineering Manager who has people management experience and is used to reviewing and signing off designs as well as being responsible for project delivery around CCTV, PAVA, Access Control or other related technology.

Rail experience is not essential, but you will need to have worked in a highly regulated environment.

The Safety & Security Engineering Manager/Design Lead will be responsible for all Rail Safety and Security Design activities undertaken within the telent rail business. The individual will manage and build a team of design engineers to produce high quality designs on a right first-time basis. All design will be based on customer requirements with an emphasis on a right first-time approach, within the allotted design time and budget.

What you'll do: examples

• Develop and promote reuse of design templates across all design teams.
• Continuously look to improve and provide a more efficient process.
• Work with the Assurance teams to define how requirements are tracked across the project lifecycle.
• Ensure designs are compliant to applicable Rail Standards, follow SOP's and best practice.
• Guide & coach teams as needed across the design teams.
• Support the Technical Design Review process as the SME for the design elements of the deliverables.
• Drive the future strategy for innovating design delivery.
• Line management of a multi disciplined team of design engineers.
• Create and maintain a succession plan, with contingency and scope for career development within the team.
• Ensure that the latest technology and vendor developments are tracked with a view to incorporating into designs.
• Support the bid process to ensure that the effort estimates for design and design reviews are accurate.
• Work closely with project managers to ensure that designs are delivered on time and on budget.
• Escalate any risks/challenges with design delivery immediately on discovery.
• Attend site during the survey and build phases of the projects to obtain feedback and continuously improve designs.
  

Who you are:

You are an experienced Engineering Manager or Design Lead who is looking to step up into the Engineering Manager role but will have people management experience already. You will be responsible for agreeing and setting goals with the team and helping to manage their career development, which we actively encourage.

You will be able to demonstrate your knowledge around the CCTV, PAVA, Access Control or similar related technical environments and will work closely with other teams to ensure successful delivery of the customers' requirements.

You will have an attention to detail and take pride in your own and your teams work and will be comfortable managing stakeholders, internal and external at all levels.
