Backend Developer

Scientific Portfolio, EDHEC’s newest FinTech venture, is an early-stage project poised to revolutionise how institutional investors manage their financial and ESG risks. Following the legacy of successful initiatives like the EDHEC Risk Institute and Scientific Infra, Scientific Portfolio aims to transfer academic expertise to industry applications. Join our Paris-based team (with onsite/remote flexibility) and contribute to building a platform set to become a global benchmark in the field.

The Tech Team

As a Backend Developer, you will join a dynamic team of three senior backend developers. Our team leverages a robust technical stack including AWS, Django, Jenkins, Ansible, ElasticSearch, Postgres, and Redis to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

Your Responsibilities

• Integrate financial data from various providers (e.g., Morningstar, Bloomberg, Reuters, S&P Capital IQ) and ESG and Climate data sources (e.g., CDP, ISS, Vigéo Eiris, Trucost, RepRisk, Clarity AI).
• Integrate new tools and libs developed by our R&D team.
• Develop endpoints for our frontend and API services.
• Create and manage background batch jobs to ensure data quality.
• Optimise system response times for enhanced performance.
• Work on data automations (batches and live processing).
• SRE monitoring.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

• At least 3 years of software development experience with Python and a REST framework like Django.
• Proficiency in architectural concepts and tools relevant to backend applications, including monolith and microservices, DDD, event-oriented architectures, and BFFs.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Extreme Programming (XP), Scrum, and/or Kanban.
• A proven ability to write high-quality, well-tested code and comfort with object-oriented programming.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English or French. A master-level diploma is a plus.

Bonus:

Experience with financial applications or FinTech, particularly in handling time series, stocks/funds/ETFs data, and risk models.
