SR Plumbing Specialist II - Facilities Services

Job Description
Assist the plumbing foreman in the performance of their duties. The senior shall assist the foreman in the layout, construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repair of the University of Tennessee Knoxville's plumbing, sewer, storm sewer, gas, steam infrastructure facilities, and to ensure the continued safe and reliable distribution and discharge of utility pipe lines to the Campus Senior employees shall fill in during the absence of a foreman. They shall demonstrate a command for campus piping systems and mentor crew members. A senior should possess the ability to receive and give instructions. To lead crews in work assignments as directed. They are also to assist as directed other shops and departments on campus in the performance and completion of various projects as needed to ensure the highest possible level of customer satisfaction.
Duties/Responsibilities;
* Perform the installation and repair of all campus owned underground utilities including high pressure steam distribution, low pressure steam for building heat, condensate and domestic water, chilled water for cooling, gas, sewer, and storm sewers
* Perform the installation of new equipment and repair of existing equipment on campus including gas fire domestic water boilers, gas fired water heaters, steam water heaters, storm quality units, water service lines, sewer lines, fire hydrants, geothermal systems, hazardous chemical systems, heat converter for building heat, building heat water pumps, chillers, chiller piping, water fountains and bottle fillers
* Assist Zone Maintenance with issues outside of their expertise
* Provide support to Construction with major plumbing or steam jobs as well as special projects such as low flow and hands-free fixtures
* Reports job information to supervision over on-going work.
* Report any unsafe practices or conditions and makes corrections as directed.
* Gets materials needed for day to day work assignments
* Performing Preventive Maintenance (PM) on piping and steam equipment
Minimum/Required Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED
* Seven (7) years of experience or a combination of trade school and experience. (Experience may substitute for trade school education on a year-for-year basis)
* Valid Driver's license
* Ability to be on call 24/7
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Technical knowledge and understanding of plumbing distribution systems and equipment, controls, piping, equipment and related areas of work
* Ability to organize, prioritize and perform under extreme pressure in both a public contact and internal departmental capacity
* Ability to lead a group of fellow employees in the performance of their duties in a highly technical and sometimes hazardous and hectic environment
* Ability to solve technical problems in the installation and repair of plumbing and piping systems and components
* Ability to read blueprints and determine materials and resources
* Must obtain a knowledge of welding to better assist welding operation and utility systems as a whole.
* Ability to acquire a deeper understanding of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment for operations and testing. Increase knowledge for system operation, assessment, diagnosis, repair, and replacement of all piping systems according to specifications
