Job Summary:

Facility maintenance of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and landscape systems as required. This includes new installation, preventative maintenance, and service/repair of facility equipment and structure.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Installation, preventative maintenance, service/repair of facility equipment, components and related equipment i.e., HVAC (temperature checks, coil cleaning and filter changes), plumbing, electrical (low voltage), security systems, appliances, vehicle inspections/maintenance, grounds/landscape and irrigation.
  2. Install, construct, and service/repair facility structural components that maintain architectural integrity i.e., drywall, painting, doors, door hardware, windows, ceilings, floors, roofing and all other structural components.
  3. Complete tasks for room "Make Ready" needs.
  4. Complete all necessary paperwork involving job related tasks.
  5. Ensure all repairs, installations and service procedures comply with all applicable government ordinances and codes.
  6. Life safety is a priority. Must be responsive to security related issues in all facilities: door locks, security camera system, fire alarm, and burglar alarm.
  7. Practice, support and promote WORKPLACE SAFETY. This includes all commonly accepted safety practices and SOH specific policies and procedures.
  8. Assist with Volunteer projects as needed.
  9. Ensure facility/workplace is clean and well-kept at all times.


Other Job Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.
  2. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education, Skills & Experience: Technical service school training, High School Diploma or GED and 1-year experience in repair and maintenance of industrial, commercial and/or residential facilities or equivalent combination of education and experience. Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and Outlook, as well as other job-related software. Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance.

Must have a basic knowledge of facility systems (i.e., HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting, Carpentry, Landscape, Safety, Security, etc.). Able to read and understand construction plans and detailed drawings. Proficient with all hand and power tools normally associated with constructions trades and service industries as well as cleaning equipment and supplies.

Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women and children.

Ability to multi-task and function proficiently in skills and craft trades associated with construction and building maintenance. Participate as a team member and maintain a high level of service quality. Ability to work safely, promote a high level of safety awareness and foster the spirit of SOH's Safety-First Program.

Equipment Used: Hand and power tools normally associated with construction trades and service industries. General Office Supplies (Calculator, Telephone, Stapler, etc.). Computer Equipment (Monitor, Keyboard, etc.), Copier/Fax/Printer and Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Worker order systems, construction plan retrieval/storage, equipment diagnostics. Technician will drive SOH van and/or box truck.

Work Environment: Work environment encompasses the entire facility with inside and outside work, experiencing a wide range of temperatures. Normal business hours with occasional weekends, evenings and holidays, and possible overtime. Frequent visits to all Star of Hope facilities is required. Work schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission. Dress code includes work pants or jeans with no holes/fraying and a SOH provided work shirt and closed-toe shoes or boots. Star of Hope T-shirt, polo-style or sweatshirt may be worn on Fridays. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required as needed for completion of tasks. Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse and other emergency situations relative to the homeless population is normal.

Relations with Others: Frequent contact with immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate manager, managers in other departments, volunteers and vendors. Occasional face to face discussions with individuals, telephone conversation, and electronic mail.

Physical Requirements: Medium workload. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Position requires ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use of fingers, handle, feel, talk, hear, taste/smell, perform repetitive motions, and drive. Technician must see in color and have a full field of vision and depth perception. Frequent use of close vision at 20 inches or less and distance vision at 20 feet or more.
