The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation , the LMS has a collaborative working culture and new state-of-the-art building based in the heart of West London in the Hammersmith Hospital Campus (W12).

The LMS aims to deliver transdisciplinary team science, in synergistic interaction with Imperial College and the wider national research environment. Part of achieving this, is to recruit new talent and support postdoctoral scientists to become world leaders in their area of science.

Salary: £39,375 plus London allowances (£3,913 & £1,472) per annum

Allowances

Additional allowances comprise a £1,000 lump sum Settlement Allowance plus a yearly Training Allowance of £850 in the first year, paid in monthly instalments. The Training Allowance increases to £1,300 in year two and £1,800 in the third year.

Job Description

Overall purpose

This project will explore the role of AMPK in endothelial cells.

Main responsibilities:
  • To plan and carry out research
  • To write and publish the results
  • To form good working relationships with other members of the group
  • To assist others and co-supervise students when required
  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the group's experimental or computational infrastructure as appropriate


Person Specification

Education / Qualifications / Training required (will be assessed from application form):

Essential:
  • PhD (or equivalent) in a related area of research


Previous work experience required (will be assessed from application form and at interview):

Essential:
  • Experience of working with primary human endothelial cells (HUVECs);
  • Experience of proteomic and transcriptomic data analysis
  • Experience of mouse breeding and metabolic phenotyping (current holder of PIL essential)

Desirable:
  • Expertise in AMPK signalling, and in particular its role in hypoxia would be a substantial advantage


Knowledge and experience ( will be assessed from application form and at interview):

Essential:
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts
  • Expertise in in vivo metabolic phenotyping in mice
  • Experience of histological methods, particularly liver and endothelial cells
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Good written communication skills in English


Personal skills / Behaviours / Qualities (will be assessed at the interview):

Essential:
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to constructively engage in scientific discussions
  • Critical evaluation of data
