Job Description

Job Specification: Shift Leader - Machine Shop

Salary: Base £33,120 - £41,000 PLUS 33.3% Shift allowance
Week 1: 6:00am - 2:00pm
Week 2: 2:00pm - 10:00pm
Joining Bonus: £3,000 (£2,000 month 1, £1,000 month 6)
Relocation fee: To be discussed with TE directly (Case by case basis)


Primary Responsibility:

As a Shift Leader in our Machine Shop, you will be responsible for managing the workload, production processes, and staff during your shift. Your role will involve supervising operations to ensure that all tasks are programmed, set, and executed to precise specifications, delivering high-quality components on time. You will exemplify and promote our core values and behaviours, fostering a positive and productive work environment.



Direct Reports:

  • Machine Shop Team Members on your shift


Main Responsibilities and Tasks:

    • Oversee daily operations and staff supervision.
    • Collaborate with other Shift Leaders to create and implement weekly/monthly plans aligned with business requirements.
    • Monitor team performance against defined plans and KPIs.
  • Quality & Performance Management:

    • Ensure all work meets drawing and quality standards.
    • Conduct quality investigations to determine root causes of defects using appropriate tools and methodologies.
    • Manage performance and disciplinary matters according to company policy.
  • Team Development:

    • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and end-of-year appraisals with team members.
    • Identify and address development needs of team members through training and mentorship.
    • Maintain up-to-date records on time & attendance, training, and disciplinary matters.
  • Communication & Collaboration:

    • Attend and contribute to meetings, providing necessary feedback.
    • Liaise with other departments and managers to resolve issues and ensure efficient product movement.
    • Host cell reviews and manage communication boards, reporting to the shift supervisor.
  • Health & Safety:

    • Uphold all company procedures, policies, and health and safety regulations.
    • Ensure Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) and 5S standards are maintained across the shop.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Lead and organise TEOA/KAISAN activities.
    • Work with the Machine Shop Manufacturing Engineer to address processing issues swiftly.
  • Other Responsibilities:

    • Deputise in the absence of senior supervision.
    • Manage cells in the absence of their cell leader.
    • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in leading a team.
  • Strong communication skills at all levels.
  • High standard of engineering skills and general education.
  • Working knowledge of CNC operating and safety procedures.
  • Engineering qualification (advantageous).
  • Methodical work approach with minimal supervision.
  • Computer literacy; experience with Excel and SAP (beneficial).
