Wordpress Developer

Job Purpose:

NerdWallet UK is looking for a Wordpress engineer to join our team for a 12 month fixed term contract. This role will focus on maintaining and growing NerdWallet UK’s WordPress platform enabling our Content & SEO team’s to reach their organic growth targets and establish NerdWallet UK within the upper levels of search results.

Working with our relatively young platform, this person will be responsible for maintaining and creating new features using gutenberg blocks, integrating 3rd party services (both external & internal services), optimising the pages and website based on input from UX & Design & Core Web Vitals reports by keeping the WordPress framework & plugins up-to-date and implementing security patches.

Essential Functions (Impact You Can Make at NW):

• WordPress framework & plugin patching & updates
• Gutenberg block creation and maintenance
• Stylesheets, javascript & other client side code optimisation
• React component maintenance
• Adhering to security guardrails and team coding standards
• PR & code reviews
• WordPress Admin maintenance & updates
• Crafting solutions from requirements and acceptance criteria from product manager, content team, SEO & commercial team members
• WordPress API maintenance

Required Skills and Qualifications (Your Experience):

• 5+ years of engineering experience with a proven track record of building consumer web applications or services
• Strong understanding, building and debugging of scalable, high performance web applications built with reusability and componentization in mind.
• Strong background developing using WordPress, PHP & Javascript & gutenberg blocks
• Experience with React
• Experience with WordPress content migrations is a bonus
• Strong organization and communication skills
• Proactive, self-starter, high degree of ownership
