Job Description

In this role you will directly lead a team of 3 Tax Compliance specialists and take responsibility for their training, development, objective setting and have full control over the department. This includes developing systems, processes and ways of working to improve service levels.

You are responsible for the successful delivery of the firm's services relating to Tax Compliance and you will have prior experience of successfully leading a team to achieve core objectives.

Your role will include;

  • Managing the Tax Compliance Team including all aspects of recruitment, training, development, mentoring and objective setting, you will play a key role in developing the service offered to clients.
  • Ensuring that procedures are in place to obtain information from clients to enable tax returns and provisions to be prepared within appropriate timescales, automating processes where possible.
  • Reviewing tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities and estates prepared by the Team to ensure high service levels, you will play a key oversight role to ensure that the team are meeting company objectives.
  • Ensuring that procedures are in place for tax returns and forms to be submitted timely to HMRC and for tax to be paid within relevant time limits, using software to help improve performance and accuracy.
  • Ensuring that Team members comply with the firm's time recording and record-keeping policies but you will also play a key role in helping them to better advise clients in relation to tax returns, claims and elections, and tax liabilities.

This person will play a key role in the development of this service, we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience;

  • Demonstrable experience of managing a team including conducting appraisals, setting objectives, reviewing performance, training and mentoring individuals to achieve greater success.
  • Excellent knowledge of tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities and estates. You do not need to be a Private Client specialist but broad knowledge of these areas is important.
  • Experience of advising clients in relation to tax compliance, you will be able to use facts, legal knowledge and market knowledge to help clients remain compliant with legislation.
  • Experience in the use of tax software and HMRC online forms but more broadly you will be able to find efficiency in processes and ways of working to speed up performance without compromising on quality.
  • A professional membership in ATT, CTA, ACCA, ICASE, ICAEW or equivalent is preferred but not necessary, someone with a high level of experience and knowledge is preferred.
