Job Description

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Project Manager has become available on an interim basis to work for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). Working in the HR Strategy, Insights and Services team, where they are responsible for a variety of key HR deliverables including the Advisory Service, pensions, contracts, project management, governance and assurance, workforce planning, third party providers and shared services.


This role is initially for 6 months and offers remote working options.


The successful candidate will lead on the planning and coordination of two HR Systems projects on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the projects to ensure that the objectives are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. You will also be responsible for working with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are defined.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project planning team and apply knowledge of project planning and analysis.
  • Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Day-to-day management and leadership of the project. Provide effective leadership and management controls. Set project controls. Design the project structure and organisation appropriate to stage. Set appropriate delivery methodologies. Manage effective transition between project phases.
  • Identify and manage stakeholder relationships and need for senior level support. Manage Internal and external relationships as appropriate, this includes building and maintaining an external network to access technical and professional best practice.
  • Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate. Identify and work with related projects to manage interdependencies.
  • Develop clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice project planning standards, tools and processes.
  • Support effective governance and decision making. Provide reporting and engage in mechanisms that you as project manager to account.
  • Work with project leads and business as usual to ensure dependencies are actively managed, act as an arbiter and enforcer and resolve issues between the various elements of the project.
  • Provide visible and effective leadership, lead the planning team and work with the project manager to deliver the business case benefits and outcomes.


What you will need to succeed:

  • Experience in Project Management – This will be important as the project moves from planning/initiation stage to delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills: ability to establish and develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, bringing people together to benefit the project.
  • Experience in planning complex programmes and programmes across multi-disciplinary areas
  • Experience in HR systems
  • Highly organised and able to quickly set strategic directives to meet changing needs.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Practitioner level qualification in a Project delivery qualification recognised in the Government Project Delivery and Capability Framework (exceptions will not be made)
  • Experience of the use of Project Planning software
  • Experience in Change Management
