Job Description

The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. About the role:

  • There are currently multiple Senior Policy Adviser positions available within the Health Workforce Strategy and Planning branch and an assessment will be undertaken at the time of interview as to where the successful applicants would be best placed, based on experience, applicant interest areas and organisational requirements.

  • The Senior Policy Adviser contributes to the development and implementation of a range of workforce development programs/initiatives to strengthen the Victorian public health workforce.
  • The successful incumbent will provide expert health workforce intelligence to the branch, department and external stakeholders through the management of the department's large workforce datasets, interpretation and dissemination of authoritative advice, as well as expert advice and oversight for systems, processes, agreements and contracts to ensure the branch is maintaining probity, accountability, value for money, and delivering the department's identified strategic workforce commitments, objectives and outcomes to achieve the best health, wellbeing and safety for all Victorians

How you'll make a difference:

  • Through detailed data analysis and investigation, provide authoritative advice on health workforce supply, trends, risks, opportunities and complex issues to inform evidence-based policy and program development.
  • Provide expert advice on the quality, accuracy and relevance of data in relation to the stakeholder information needs.
  • Project manage the implementation, maintenance and improvement of methodologies and data management systems for the collection, collation, analysis and presentation of health and community services workforce data.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of workforce planning methodologies, including data customisation, management, display and analysis that is fit for purpose.
  • Identify current and future data requirement trends and lead implementation of continuous improvement recommendations that meet the needs of the branch and department.
  • Provide high quality policy advice, options and recommendations to senior management and government based on comprehensive research and analysis.
  • Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, and Cabinet submissions.
  • Manage key unit projects to include setting up, monitoring and managing contracts with external providers to ensure high quality outputs are delivered within agreed timeframes and budget and results can inform policy development.
