Job Purpose
- To make psychology available as a resource for communities.
- To contribute to improving the quality of education provided by maintained schools and academies for children and young people and especially those with SEN by: Providing psychological advice (including statutory advice) to SEN services and other officers for children and young people age 0 to 25.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Firm commitment to developing inclusive and effective
Sound knowledge of current psychology on which to base and
Commitment to promoting the development and image of the educational psychology profession
Commitment to participating in high quality staff induction. supervision, performance review and professional development.
Awareness of current issues affecting education and educational psychology and how these will impact on the LA and colleagues.
Insight into own behaviour (in individual and group situations, with clients and colleagues)
Knowledge of the most current/relevant legislation (e.g. SEND Code of Practice, Children and Families Act)
Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of children and young peoples needs, how they learn and how to progress
Qualification
A good Honours Degree in psychology or equivalent recognised by the British Psychological Society as conferring eligibility for Graduate Basis for chartered Membership (GBC).
A post-graduate qualification in educational psychology.
Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist and eligible to use the adjectival title of educational psychologist, or registration within 3 months of taking up post.
