And right now, we're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer. Based at our Capenhurst location, you'll lead internal and external resource in the delivery of mechanical design solutions for TMF, personally develop mechanical designs to address operational issues and inefficiencies in line with codes, standards and good engineering practice, solve complex problems to optimise equipment availability and continually improve plant performance, maintain and develop the internal suit of engineering procedures and standards.

What will your day look like?

Health, Safety, Environment & Security
The job holder is expected to ensure that:
• Inherent safety is incorporated into mechanical design solutions.
• The full range of operating conditions are considered.
• Issues like: Technician behaviour (human factors) common mode failure, unrevealed failure are designed for.
• The full process hazard range is catered for as mechanical solutions are developed (pressure, radiological, chemotoxic, environmental – not exhaustive)
• Documents are suitably marked and managed from a security and export control perspective.
Mechanical designs are legislatively compliant.

Team Performance
Encourage a strong sense of teamwork leading to Mechanical Engineering excellence and a collaborative approach to engineering design.

Technical Specialist
• Capable Mechanical Engineer
• Change Management Leader
• Process Safety support
• Incident Investigation support
• Emergency Response support
Provide coaching and advice for other engineers in the organisation.

Mechanical Engineering Excellence
• Improve delivery of mechanical engineering, ensuring that the design basis is compliant, detailed design is accurate and that the implementation scope is clearly defined and communicated to construction and commissioning teams.
Participate in improving mechanical engineering standards, and systems to improve efficiency and design traceability.


What do you need to be great at this role?

• Chartered Mechanical Engineer with design experience on an operating plant.
• Minimum 5 years' experience with a chemical/nuclear background.
• Time spent on either a top tier COMAH or nuclear site working in a highly regulated environment.
• Broad experience of mechanical technologies and equipment.
• Significant experience of multi-disciplined team working and the parts played by the various engineering disciplines
• Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style and content to suit audience.
• Ability to work with technical experts and plant operating teams across all levels of the organisation.
• Approach to work consistent with operating in a highly regulated environment.
• Extensive knowledge of design standards and change management procedures.
• Ability to prioritise workloads effectively to meet challenging targets.
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant security, health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Strong problem solving/trouble-shooting skills across the full engineering spectrum.
